The Mystery League, a company that stages live puzzle hunts and virtual team-building games, is hiring a puzzle production assistant. This job involves: researching content for puzzles, helping host virtual and in-person events, crafting physical puzzle objects, prepping material for events, and helping design events. There’d also be room to help with sales, marketing, and social media. The job would expose you to the intricacies of puzzle-making and event planning.
Your responsibilities would involve organization, writing, graphic design, communication, research, creative brainstorming, and critical thinking. You need to know your way around Google Docs and Sheets. Knowledge of Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop is a plus.
Possible projects include: designing games for museums like the Field Museum, designing new tabletop escape games, designing asynchronous online puzzle hunts like Pilcrow Bar, building ARGs like the one we did for Field Notes, and creating new trivia rounds and questions. Projects vary in medium, type, and scale; learn more about the Mystery League’s projects here.
The position is paid. Expect to work 20-30 hours per week. There's opportunity for growth. Laptop computer required; we use the Mac ecosystem. We're in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood and would prefer someone who can work in person, but we'll happily consider remote applicants. The position is currently open, but you could start as late as late August.
